Chronology of Chan-Ao Chao

Born on July 3 in Laiyang County, Shandong Province (now Laixi City, Shandong Province), originally named Zhao Ao.
 

1932

Transferred from a private school to a formal school, winning first place in the township primary school examination, and the teacher renamed him "Zhan Ao."
 

1944 (12 years old)

Joined the National Army, serving as a second-class service soldier. Three years later, arrived in Kaohsiung, Taiwan via Hong Kong from Hainan.
 

1947 (15 years old)

Promoted to non-commissioned officer for having excellent handwriting, participated in military supplementary education.
 

1952 (20 years old)

Qualified with a high school equivalent education to take the first college entrance examination and was admitted to the Political Warfare Cadre School (now National Defense University Political Warfare College, abbreviated as Political Warfare College) Fine Arts Department, and studied oil painting under Mr. Lin Ke-gong (1901 - 1992) in the same year.
 

1958 (26 years old)

Won first place in the youth painting competition organized by the International Women's Federation in the oil painting category.
 

1961 (29 years old)

The oil painting "Beitou Scenery" was selected for the Youth Art Exhibition in São Paulo, Brazil. Graduated with excellent practical skills from the Political Warfare Cadre School.
 

1962 (30 years old)

Began studying Chinese ink painting and engaged in modern ink painting creative experiments.
 

1973 (41 years old)

Invited by junior at the Political Warfare School, painter Ma Fang-yu, to join the Tainan New Image Painting Association.
 

1983 (51 years old)

Started to publish new works and held the first solo exhibition at Tainan Zhongzheng Art Gallery.
 

1984 (52 years old)

Retired from the education sector to focus on artistic creation. Later held fifteen solo exhibitions and was invited to participate in important exhibitions both domestically and internationally, with works widely
collected by art lovers at home and abroad.
 

1985 (53 years old)

Works "Landscape," "Ink Play with Clear Sound," and "Cold Mountain, Deep Clouds, Unknown Place" were collected by the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.
 

1987 (55 years old)

Participated in the Chinese Modern Ink Exhibition at the Hong Kong City Hall.
 

1988 (56 years old)

Participated in the China-Korea Modern Ink Exhibition at the Korea Modern Art Museum.
 

1990 (58 years old)

The work "Wonder Behind the Mountain" was collected by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.
The works "High Mountains and Long Waters" and "Autumn Mountain Moonlit Night" were collected by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
 

1994 (62 years old)

Joined the 21st Century Ink Painting Association.
 

1995 (63 years old)

Participated in the third Modern Ink Painting Exhibition of the Republic of China at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center.
Published "Zhao Zhan Ao 2001 Ink Painting Collection" and "Zhao Zhan Ao 2001 Oil Painting Collection."
 

2001 (69 years old)

Selected by the Executive Yuan Cultural Construction Committee for publication in "Taiwan Modern Art Series - Abstract Lyric Ink."
Participated in the "New Trends in Ink - Taiwan Modern Ink Painting Exhibition" at the Qingdao Art Museum in China.
Held the "Zhao Zhan Ao 2004 Exhibition" at the Fengzi Xuan Gallery in California, USA.
 

2004 (72 years old)

Exhibited at the Kaohsiung Art Fair / Yixing Art Center.
Published "Neither Color nor Ink - The Story of the Old Tree."
 

2016 (84 years old)

Passed away in Kaohsiung on August 17.
 

2019 (87 years old)

On August 22, held the "Ink Rhythm and Color Chapter - Zhao Zhan Ao Painting Exhibition" at the National Taiwan Normal University Shida Dequn Gallery and published a collection of the same name.
